Exploring with blogging over these last several weeks has been enjoyable and rather informative toward my interest of seafood. I learned all sorts of new recipes, cooking strategies, and other cool seafood facts. As someone who has grown up around seafood his whole life I felt very confident that I was very informed about but actually learned a lot of new things. Attached above is a picture of some delicious looking clams! Clams are one of my favorite seafood dishes!
First and most importantly I learned about how to properly purchase, store, and prep seafood. From purchasing it , whether its fresh or frozen have several different factors and characteristics that matter. If you aren’t eating it fresh right away its important its stored in a freezer but never at the bottom to avoid freezer burn. The best tasting seafood can be made in several different ways. For example you could pan fry, bake, grill, or deep fry! Being a college student, I am always looking for new things to make and explore my cooking abilities. With blogging it has allowed me to explore different ways to cook seafood, as well as make some new dishes. Can’t wait to continue trying different recipes and sharing some of my own. This link is easy to follow and super good. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/seafood-chowder-recipe.html What I really want to learn more about seafood is the health benefits it has, and how to get more people to start eating seafood rather then beef. There is a ton of information out there now by doctors and research teams, but there is still a lot more to be learned. I would be very interested in looking into more facts and research about the push to more sustainable seafood. I really feel it could make a change. Seafood watch is a APP and movement toward sustainable seafood food “We also encourage restaurants, distributors and seafood purveyors to purchase from sustainable sources. We have over 200 partners across North America, including two of the largest food service companies in the U.S.” (Monetary Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch) As much fun that I had with blogging I feel that real life experience in the seafood world could be a lot of fun and engaging, but a lot more informative. I’m not sure if a career would be in my future, but defiantly engaging some activities and events like seafood shows, cooking shows etc. Its been fun blogging this semester, Cant wati to take what ive learned and continure blogging more about seafood!

Blogging has been an interesting, but new and fun aspect of my academic career. I made my first blog around a year ago, and took me a while to really get into it. Before I made my first blog, my idea of blogging was that is was a chance for people to post and interact about specific values, beliefs, and interest that people have. What I didn’t know about blogging though was the in-depth research and personal experiencing you need to post a credible and exceptional blog post. I did not know the time and commitment to keep up with a blog has on people’s day. Blogs are to be continually updated, and edited.
When I began updating my blog on a weekly basis I was sure that over the course of each week, I would learn something new, and relevant to my interest that would keep my audience and me engaged. Over each week, I got the chance to use different videos, pictures, links, and stories to keep my blog page interesting. Overall I found through my blogging experience that it is extremely important to keep up with recent news, and stories about your interest. Things are always changing which causes what you post and share will also change. Falling behind or not keeping a consistently update on your blog post can be detrimental. Overall I really enjoyed my experience with blogging and will continue in the future with updating and checking out cool new blogs! Today America is still fighting obesity, and pushing to a healthier lifestyle. For some diets and exercise work, and for others the urge for fast food, and other high in fat foods are too much. With many Americans on the look for healthy foods, and alternatives this is an incredible opportunity for the seafood industry. In the up coming years you will most likely find many ‘health’ related seafood advertisements. With seafood being one of the healthiest foods on the earth the demand for more is going to increase giving the industry a huge opportunity to market how healthy it is.
As an account manager I would push the healthy aspect of seafood to my clients. One thing I would be to have quick and simple recipes for healthy seafood meals on the packaging. This will encourage consumers to try something new but also eat healthy. Seafood has lots of essential nutrients the all other meats don’t offer like Omega-3, which would be another opportunity for the industry. Some other opportunities for the industry in the United States is to advertise toward the more inland states. Seafood is a lot more popular along the coast as it’s fresher, and more assessable. A goal for the future could be to provide fresher fish for those states. To push more fresh fish all of the United States would be a huge improvement in obesity, as well increasing profit in the seafood industry. As packaged seafood has some nutritional value, nothing beats fresh fish. As the seafood industry is massive, advertising and marketing trends are not going to come down to specifics, like TV ads, versus radio or billboard ads. The industry will continue to advertising using all vehicles. What the seafood industry now is changing in their advertising and marketing is the content including Non-genetically modified food, good fats, and traceability.
Non-genetically modified food is becoming a trend around the United States. Good thing for seafood is that most seafood is already GMO free making for a perfect marketing trend. As the push for GMO labels could hurt salmon, the rest of the fish can benefit from it and the seafood industry could really increase it’s sales. What seems to be a up and coming trend right now is “good fats.” These fats are usually found in eggs, avocados, and seafood. Many Americans looked to avoiding fats as a diet, these foods that include good fats have many health benefits. Most meats can’t compete with having good fats in there products allowing for another great marketing and advertising trend to arise. Lastly, everyone wants to know where there food is coming from. Traceability is a strong characteristic that the seafood industry has. Continuing with their traceability, and local sourcing can be a huge profit and marketing trend. As the United States is looking to become ‘healthier’ as a whole, diet is where it starts. Seafood being the healthier option in meat, and including essential nutrients for a healthier life, the seafood industry could really spike in sales if they Advertise and Market these strengths. http://www.seafoodsource.com/news/foodservice-retail/4-trends-impacting-2016-seafood-sales?start=2 http://www.preparedfoods.com/articles/115138-top-seafood-trends-in-2015 Who I admire
